Surrender Questionaire

St. Louis Bulldog Rescue exists to help English Bulldogs find their way to homes where they will be loved forever. We offer advice and referrals to people who are having difficulty with a Bulldog, and if necessary, we can place the Bulldog in a new home. The re-homing process is described on our web site, and in more detail on this page. Our volunteers have many years of experience with the Bulldog breed. We also have a network of professionals that we can recommend if you need help with a behavior or medical issue.

We often hear from people who think they will have to give up their Bulldog because a problem seems unsolvable. In many cases, we have seen families keep their Bulldog after a few sessions with a trainer. We can put you in touch with a Bulldog-experienced trainer who will come to your home at your convenience. If you want to keep your Bulldog, we will do what we can to assist you.

If you have already decided that your Bulldog would do better in a different situation, we will start by placing the Bulldog with one of our volunteers, so that we can evaluate its behavior and specific needs. We will then place the Bulldog in a carefully-screened home.

Here is how we work to make the surrender and adoption process go as smoothly as possible:

1. Because we are an all-volunteer organization, we appreciate some advance notice before you surrender your dog. After you call us, we like to have at least a few days to prepare for a new dog.
2. We will ask for a photo of your dog. If your dog is not a purebred English Bulldog, we will try refer you to another bull breed rescue group.
3. We will ask you to provide veterinary records, or a summary of your dog’s medical history. This should include the vet’s name and contact information. If possible, note when the dog was spayed or neutered, when inoculations were given, surgeries performed, and if the dog is currently taking any medication.
4. Tell us about your dog’s personality and routines. What are his likes and dislikes, what scares him, what makes him happy? Tell us about his favorite toy, how he exercises and what he eats. The most important information comes next. Please tell us why you are surrendering your dog. Be honest, and be as specific as possible. If the Bulldog has shown any aggression toward adults, children or other animals, we need to know about it. During the transition, your dog will be living in our homes with our children and pets.

Please do not withhold any information that will put our families, or your dog, at risk. Knowing your Bulldog's background will help.
